March 19, 2019Hilliard’s Environmental Sustainability Commission is proud to be hosting the City’s Annual Earth Day event and will have multiple recycling collections. On Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. until noon, you will have the opportunity to bring paper, electronics, polystyrene foam, and other household items to the Community Center to be properly recycled or repurposed. Below is some information about each of our collections, as well as a few tips to remember when bringing your items.
Polystyrene Foam – Remove tape, paper and any other contaminants from the packaging. Do not bring food-grade packaging (this includes meat packaging, cups, plates, egg cartons, etc.) unless it is brand new and has never had contact with food. Keep packing peanuts separate and in a sealed bag.
Paper – Allshred Services will be collecting paper and shredding it right there on-site! This collection only will go for an extra hour on April 27 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Electronics – RenTek will collect and recycle mobile phones, gaming systems, wires and cables, VCRs and other electronic equipment. Please do not bring hazardous materials, items with freon, smoke detectors, alkaline batteries, or small household appliances.
Fees: Some items such as televisions, computer monitors and copiers will require a disposal fee. See RenTek’s website for info on fees.
Data Security: At RenTek’s community recycling events, data security receipts will NOT be offered. Please keep this in mind when bringing items such as hard drives. You will only be issued a handwritten receipt showing the quantity and type of device collected. Please do NOT bring electronics that contain personally identifiable information. Household Items – Habitat for Humanity will be accepting items ranging from doors handles to appliances and electronics to lumber. For a complete list of what is accepted, please see their website:Â http://www.restoremidohio.org/donate/
