Adventures in Home Composting — Part 1
July 19, 2020UPDATE: Harmful Algal Blooms
August 19, 2020In 2019, the City of Hilliard Environmental Sustainability Commission (ESC) partnered with Terracycle’s Tom’s of Maine Natural Care Recycling Program. This free program accepts waste including mouthwash bottles and caps, toothbrushes, deodorant containers and caps, soap packaging, floss containers, and toothpaste tubes and caps.
The ESC recently mailed a package of over four pounds to be recycled! Even though this program is sponsored by Tom’s of Maine, the natural care products collected do not need to be brand-specific. Additionally, the packaging does not need to be cleaned. However, Terracycle requests that we remove as much product as possible before shipping. So please squeeze those toothpaste tubes until you can’t get any more product out!
Terracycle offers many programs that collect and recycle hard-to-recycle waste. In the past, the City of Hilliard has collected candy wrappers via one of Terracycle’s Zero Waste Boxes. For now, please continue to save only your natural care products, as we will continue this collection. When you have a few items ready to be recycled, bring them to the Hilliard Community Center at 3800 Veterans Memorial Drive, and we will make sure they get recycled as part of this program. Note: we are no longer accepting bottle caps/lids.
