Is There an Electric Vehicle in Your Future?
August 22, 2021Winter is Coming!
October 22, 2021Aaahhhh! The kids are back in school, the days are getting shorter, and trees are heading into dormancy. And one morning very soon, you’ll wake up to WHOMP! all the leaves from your trees on the ground. If you live in the city limits of Hilliard, there is no need to bag leaves! Check out hilliardohio.gov to find out when the city is will swing by your neighborhood to pick up your leaves. The city will have the schedule under “News” and will once again use a 4 color-coded quadrant system to show which day of the week your neighborhood will be serviced.
A helpful hint: sweep the leaves to the edge of your yard and not into the street. Why? Well, for one thing, leaves in the street tend to be carried into the storm sewers. What’s wrong with that? Materials that go into the storm sewers go directly into our streams, then rivers, etc. And most suburban tree leaves have absorbed lawn chemicals etc and our waterways don’t need those chemicals. (Incidentally, please blow your grass clippings back into yo
ur yard for the same reason: your grass will benefit from those clippings; our waterways will not).
Check back next month to find out what the city is planning to do with your pumpkins after you’re done with them. Hint: they shouldn’t go into lawn waste, and there’s no need to put them in your solid waste receptacles.
