Ah, yes; spring is in the air, Easter is just around the corner, and April is soon upon us, with the ever an
ticipated recycling collections sponsored by the Environmental Sustainability Commission (Go Green Hillia
rd)!
This year, we have a few exciting changes to make the even even bigger and better.
First of all, Earth Day comes early this year on April 15th, 2023, and we’ve moved to the Franklin County Fairgrounds!
Since the Earth Day event keeps growing and growing, we need more space to handle all the traffic. We’re proud to partner with the Fairgrounds and the Franklin County 4-H Council’s annual “Walk & Serve” to host at the Fairgrounds. The “Walk & Serve” is a hands-on community service event whereby residents can help 501(c)3 non-profit organizations. At the “Walk & Serve,” attendees will learn about the missions of these non-profits and help out by completing some projects for any non-profit that they choose.
- You can learn more by visiting 4hcouncil.org.Recycling Details
The recycling collection this year will be the same as previous years:
- The City of Hilliard will collect polystyrene Styrofoam at the event. Please no tape, no food containers, no peanuts, no “flexible” foam, and no colored polystyrene. This collection will be in addition to the everyday Styrofoam drop-off across from the Municipal Building, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- MidOhio ReStore (Habitat for Humanity) will be taking functioning household goods. Please visit their website to learn what is acceptable to donate.
- Office-type paper will be shredded onsite by Black Ops Destruction. As always, we ask that you remain in the car as we take your material to the machine. 3 banker boxes (16”L by 12”W by 10.5”H) per car is the maximum. We will quickly inspect each box or bag to ensure that there is nothing that could jam or break the shredder and do reserve the right to reject boxes of materials. Additionally, any box brought will need to go home with you, but empty!
- RenTek will again be collecting electronics. It is very important that everyone underst ands that some items do have a disposal fee: CRT monitors are $30; printers/scanners/fax machines are $3 each; MACs are $50 each; tube/projection tvs are $3 per inch, and LCD/flat screens are $10 each. All fees must be paid IN CASH. No exceptions. No hazardous materials, smoke detectors, alkaline batteries, fire extinguishers, small appliances, tapes, disks, or books.
Please enter the fairground only via Northwest Parkway. Signage will direct those cars with recycling to Gate 5 and “Walk & Serve” cars to Gate 3. You will be able to drive through the grounds after dropping off your recycling and drive over to the “Walk & Serve”. Gate 4 will be the exit to Northwest Parkway for all cars.
“Walk & Serve” will start at 9:30 a.m. (after the completion of the 4H Clover 5K is completed!) and last until noon.
The recycling collections will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
