The Green Scene: January 2026
January 30, 2026Protect the Big Darby Watershed
🖼️ Big Darby Creek harbors more biodiversity than any other stream in Ohio. The Big Darby Watershed is truly one of our state treasures.
And it needs our help.
The Big Darby Accord has been reopened for the first time in 20 years, with the opportunity expand development and also to place better protections.
Conservation scientist Adam Lehmann from The Nature Conservancy met with Hilliard's Environmental Sustainability Commission to talk about the ways we can support sustainable development in the Darby.
💬Your voice matters!
Contact your legislator to let them know you support protecting this precious resource. Protect the Darby.org from the Darby Creek Coalition can connect you to your legislator and provide a pre-written email.
These protections are crucial for the updated Accord:
- Use the best available science to identify how much development the Darby can withstand and commit to not surpassing it.
- Require conservation land protection to happen, setting acres aside for parks before new development can be approved.
- Accountability for developers to the promises and limits within the Accord with watershed conservation staff oversight .
