Celebrate Earth Day with Us!
April 22, 2019Go Green Hilliard’s Community Garden Plot — part 1
June 3, 2019Follow the Hilliard Environmental Sustainability Commission as it tends its Community Garden plot in 2019!
We will be documenting our journey right here on this blog. So follow us as we plan, plant, and care for our garden. Our hope is to encourage others to participate in community gardening. If you have never planted a garden before and not sure where to start, we hope this will provide an educational resource and source of support.
We are beginners, too! While some of the ESC members have past gardening experience, many of us do not. And we all know we have a lot to learn. We will soon meet with local master gardeners to seek expert advice in how best to plan and grow our vegetable garden.
Our plan is to donate our harvest to the Hilliard Food Pantry. Hilliard’s Recreation and Parks department, who manages the city’s community garden program, is offering no-cost garden plots to civic groups who are growing vegetables to donate to the food pantry. This is a great project to build friendships and give back to the community.
Garden plots are available at two different garden sites. One site is behind the Phyllis A. Ernst Senior Center. The other is on Leap Road, south of Davidson Road. Additional information, including plot sizes, fees, and garden rules are found here.
Will you considering joining us? Registration is now open. We hope to see you in the gardens this summer! Apply online or contact Hilliard Recreation and Parks Department with questions at 614.876.5200.
