OSU Prof. to Deploy Low-Cost Air Quality Sensors Around Hilliard
June 20, 2018Retention Pond Maintenance, Go Green Hilliard Style
August 19, 2018We have some exciting news to share about new and improved recycling at the Hilliard Family Aquatic Center (HFAC)!
Thanks to a SWACO grant and our Go Green Hilliard (Environmental Sustainability Commission), the HFAC has improved its recycling. If you frequent the pool, you may remember seeing overflowing bins last year which resulted in recyclables being sent to the landfill. The City of Hilliard, the Recreation & Parks Department, and the ESC all wish to minimize the amount of waste being sent to the landfill and have set a strategic goal of eliminating all waste over the next two to three years with the possibility of even becoming a Zero Waste facility in the future.
At the beginning of the pool season, the ESC conducted an audit of trash at the HFAC and discovered that more than 20 percent of the trash was recyclable. So far the new bins have been a big hit, and we want to keep the momentum going. Please talk to your children and your children’s friends about making sure their plastic water and soda bottles, cans, and even pizza box tops go into the new bins. Hilliard is working hard to become a model community for sustainable practices, and we believe it is a team effort. Thanks for your participation!
