Fall into Recycling with Go Green Hilliard!
August 25, 2024
Recycle more with orange!
Bright orange Hefty RENEW bags can collect tricky-to-recycle plastic, making them stand out for easy separation and better recycling.
Good news! You can now these toss cereal and cake box liners, plastic shipping pillows, bubble wrap, and plastic mailing envelopes into the weekly bin for easy recycling!
Place these "no-go" recycling items in the orange Hefty RENEW bags along with the rest of your recycling in the weekly Hilliard recycling pick up.
From there, Rumpke will separate these bright bags and send them for further processing at a facility that specializes in hard-to-recycle plastics.
How do I get started?
You'll find Hefty RENEW bags at major grocers and retailers throughout Hilliard, such as Kroger and Walmart. You can also request a free start up kit at the Hefty RENEW website.
So what, exactly, can be added to these bags?
That list is at the Hefty RENEW Accepted Items page and in the graphic to the right.
Most plastic bags, bubble-wrap mailing envelopes, and food packaging will fit right in that orange bag. However, there are some important differences to notice.
For instance, the plastic liner bag in the cookie box can be recycled, but the plastic tray that holds cookies cannot.
Plastic medicine bottles (clear or colored) for over the counter medicines can be recycled. But plastic prescription bottles, unfortunately, can't be recycled.
The Check If Your Item Is Accepted tool farther down the page linked above is extremely detailed and helpful.
