Countdown to Earth Day!
April 4, 2024Fall into Recycling with Go Green Hilliard!
August 25, 2024Recycle more with orange!
Bright orange Hefty RENEW bags can collect tricky-to-recycle plastic, making them stand out for easy separation and better recycling.
Place those "no-go" recycling items-- items that can't usually be put with the recycling, like chip bags, candy wrappers, foam take-out containers, and pet food bags--in the orange Hefty RENEW bags along with the rest of your recycling in the weekly Hilliard recycling pick up.Â
From there, Rumpke will separate these bright bags and send them for further processing at a facility that specializes in hard-to-recycle plastics.Â
How to get started? Hefty RENEW bags can be purchased at major grocers and retailers throughout Hilliard, such as Kroger and Walmart. You can also request a free start up kit at the Hefty RENEW page.
What, exactly, can be added to these bags? A quick list can be found to the right and at the Hefty RENEW Accepted Items page here: https://www.hefty.com/products/hefty-renew/hefty-renew-accepted-items.
Some exciting additions include cereal and cake box liners, plastic shipping pillows, bubble wrap, and plastic mailing envelopes.Â
However, there are some important distinctions that need to be noted. For instance, the cookie box plastic liner bag can be recycled, but NOT the plastic tray that holds cookies. Plastic medicine bottles (clear or colored) for over the counter medicines can be recycled. But plastic prescription bottles, unfortunately, can't. The Check If Your Item Is Accepted tool farther down the page linked above is extremely detailed and helpful.Â
