March 12, 2021Hilliard Virtual Earth Week!
March 22, 2021Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 17th, 2021 10am – 12pm
The Hilliard Environmental Sustainability Committee is proud to host another recycling collection in honor of our Virtual Earth Week at Hilliard Community Center, 3800 Veterans Memorial Drive.
This year, we will be hosting four collections:
- Shredding
- Electronics
- Styrofoam
- Habitat for Humanity
Paper Shredding: Office papers only. Newspapers, magazines, and cardboard should be placed in your recycle container for weekly curbside pickup. Each resident will be responsible for emptying their own boxes of office paper into the shredding toters (shredding will occur offsite at an accredited site). Each resident will be responsible for taking their empty boxes back with them. We will be checking the boxes for foreign material and will reject boxes if there is contamination. Each car may only have 3 “banker boxes” to unload. A banker box is roughly 16”L by 12”W by 10.5”H.
Electronic Waste: RenTek will collect electronic waste such as phones, computers, ink cartridges, gaming systems, keyboards/mice, laptops, wires & cables, stereos, and VCRs. Monitors, TVs, and printers may have a disposal fee. Unacceptable items: anything with Freon, no smoke detectors or fire extinguishers, no books or manuals, no media (tapes, CDs, etc.), no household or car batteries, and no appliances. Please click her for a complete list of accepted electronics for recycling at RenTek.
Polystyrene or Expanded Polystyrene (EPS), commonly known as Styrofoam: Packaging material, packing peanuts, and foam coolers. Please remove tape and paper. Only white “firm” EPS will be accepted. No expanded polyethylene, no foam sheets, no construction foam, and no foam food containers even if they have never touched food. Peanuts should be bagged separately from the EPS. FYI, some peanuts are actually biodegradable. You can test yours by putting a few in a glass of water. If they disintegrate, they are biodegradable and will not be accepted here, but you can safely melt them in water. Please click here for a complete polystyrene guide.
