Go Green Hilliard’s Community Garden Plot — part 1
June 3, 2019Spotlight: Little Acorn Children’s Garden
June 20, 2019The ESC would like to get the word out about a NEW plastic bottle cap and lid recycling collection. We are calling on all kids, parents, teachers, coaches, and group leaders to help! The goal is to purchase benches made from 100% recycled material in honor of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. The benches will be dedicated at the Hilliard Earth Day Celebration on April 25, 2020.
We are collecting plastic drink bottle caps—think Gatorade, water bottle, and pop caps; as well as lids/tops from coffee cans, peanut butter jars, butter tubs, ketchup bottles, and tops from deodorant and liquid laundry detergent. We can accept caps and lids that are recycle numbers 2, 4, or 5. We cannot accept metal, pumps, or fast food cup lids, any lid that is more than 8 inches in diameter, or items with food debris.
Several hundred pounds of caps are needed! We know that is a lot, but we are excited to begin this project. Please let us know if your family, school, group, team, youth group, etc., is on board for helping us with this project. Start collecting caps immediately in a box or bucket. When the box is full, weigh the caps.
After you’ve weighed the caps, you can drop them off at the Hilliard Rec Center (and then shoot us an email or leave a comment here to let us know how much you’ve dropped off). By the end of the year, we hope to have enough lids and caps for a couple of benches!
Please comment or post if you are on board for helping us with this project! If you have questions, just send a comment through our website or FB page. For more information on the cap and lid program, including more examples of acceptable caps and lids, please see:
