The City of Hilliard is committed to growing a strong community gardening program. Find information below about how and why you may want to get involved.
Come Grow With Us!
The City of Hilliard maintains two community garden sites where residents can rent a garden plot for a nominal fee. Garden sites are located behind the Phyllis A. Ernst Senior Center and on Leap Road, south of Davidson Road.
For more information, visit the City of Hilliard’s parks webpage and look for the Community Gardens section.
Why Garden?
- Growing your own food is hard work, but exciting and rewarding.
- Create something beautiful, green, and/or flowering.
- Pick and enjoy fresh vegetables.
- Encourage kids to help. They are more inclined to try food they have helped plant and watched grow.
- Planting and maintaining a garden is hard work. Your body will benefit from the physical activity of gardening.
- Build Community. Visit with others at the garden site. Get to know your garden plot neighbors. Learn and share knowledge with others. Friendships often grow and blossom in the gardens!
- Give Back – Lots of opportunities arise to help others. Gardeners always appreciate a hand with weeding or watering. We have learned successful gardeners plant lots of extras so there is a plentiful harvest to share with others. Also, produce can be donated to the Hilliard Food Pantry to help those in need in our community.
