MORPC 2023 Annual Summit on Sustainability
November 30, 2023Countdown to Earth Day!
April 4, 2024Hilliard glows green in 2023!
We have some great news about the results of Hilliard’s electronic aggregation savings in our first month, October 2023, after adopting Issue 35 in November 2022:
- 8881 out of 9100 households in Hilliard participate - that's 98%!
- Savings in October alone were $260,924.93!
- Surrounding communities have paid up to $0.11 per kWh while Hilliard has been paying only $0.0698 per kWh
- The average aggregation participant has saved almost 36% and $29 in the first month alone compared to AEP Ohio's rates.Â
Issue 35 allowed the City of Hilliard to investigate and create an electric aggregation program from sustainable energy sources.
On June 15, 2023, Hilliard negotiated a favorable sustainable energy bulk rate with Dynergy Energy Services at $0.0699 per kWh, as compared to AEP’s June 2024 market price of $0.1184 cents per kWh. The program allows Hilliard to purchase renewable energy credits from throughout the country to support the functioning and expansion of sustainable electricity sources.Â
This bulk rate allows citizens who wish to source their electricity from sustainable sources such as solar and wind at a more favorable rate than individuals could negotiate on their own.
These prices went into effect in September 2023 and residents received their first bill utilizing sustainable energy in October 2023.Â
The contract with Dynergy is a 24 month contract, and this program continues to be an opt-out program throughout Hilliard, and residents who wish to opt-out may do so at any time. Detailed information was available by mail from Dynergy over the summer and on Energy Alliances: City of Hilliard.
