For Your Consideration: AEP Energy’s ECO-Advantage Program
August 19, 2018Bottles, Bottles, Bottles, Everywhere
October 23, 2018Thanks to a grant from the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (“SWACO”), the Hilliard Family Aquatic Center (“HFAC”) has seen a significant increase in recycling. If you frequent the pool you may remember seeing overflowing trash bins last year which resulted in recyclable items being sent to the landfill. The City of Hilliard wishes to minimize the amount of waste being sent to the landfill and has set a strategic goal of eliminating all waste over the next two to three years with the possibility of becoming a Zero Waste facility in the future.
At the beginning of this past pool season, the Environmental Sustainability Commission (“ESC”) conducted an audit of the trash at the HFAC and found that more than 20% of trash was recyclable. New recycling bins were installed in June, and a recent audit found that the number of recyclables in the trash is now down to 5%! We are very pleased with this progress, and hope that we can reduce it down to 0%. Please continue to be mindful of how you dispose of trash at the pool, and educate your children on what is recyclable. Plastic bottles, soda bottles, juice boxes, cans, and even pizza box tops can be put into the recycling bins. Thank you for your help in making Hilliard a model community for sustainable practices and keep up the good work!
