The Heritage Rail Trail
April 7, 2013Ways to Go Green and save some Green
April 7, 2013Think back to your childhood and how much fun you had riding your banana seat bicycle with the tassels hanging off the handle bars. You could even fit your best friend behind you on the seat. Those were the days, you were care free and out of the house until the sun went down. Fast forward to 2013. You have commitments: a job, children, pets, house and you’re still out until sundown, but caged in your car. Wouldn’t it be nice to feel the fun and freedom you had riding your banana seat bicycle again? You can!
Hilliard has nearly 25 miles of bicycle or multi-use paths and they are spread out all over the city, so there is at least one close to you. The Heritage Trail (a.k.a. Rails to Trails) runs from Old Hilliard to Cemetery Pike Road in Madison County. There are also dedicated bike lanes on Hilliard-Rome and Alton & Darby Creek Roads. Bicycling is definitely not convenient for the average person to commute to work or for buying a week’s supply of groceries for a family of five, but it is perfect for a quick trip to the corner pharmacy, ice cream store, or just for FUN. We need more fun in our lives,so take on this challenge, go for a bike ride this week and have fun! While you are having fun you are also going to improve your mood, boost your energy level, lose weight, sleep better, and do some good for the environment—not too bad for having fun. Report back so you can inspire others and send a photo of you riding your bike in Hilliard.
