Eye on the Environment: City participates in MORPC’s 2022 Summit on Sustainability
October 22, 2022America Recycles In Hilliard (and Franklin County)!
November 15, 2022Issue 35 would authorize the City of Hilliard to investigate and create an electric aggregation program from sustainable energy sources. It would allow the city to negotiate a more favorable bulk rate for electricity than citizens could do individually. It would allow citizens who wish to source their electricity from sustainable sources such as solar and wind while still allowing citizens who don’t want to convert to remain with their current electricity sourcing.
Issue 35 is an opt out initiative, primarily to allow the pricing to be determined via the power of aggregation with a larger, known number of users. A larger pool of known customers would provide the most competitive pricing.
If approved, and if the city does not immediately receive a favorable bulk rate, the city wouldn’t move forward. The city would remain poised to initiate the program when a good rate is available. Regardless of the timing, all residents would receive notification when the switch would occur, allowing those who wish to stay with their current provider the ability to opt out.
